    @1:05:51 He says here's the knife I just Made and it looks like a blue grey one I found on a farm near Black Hand Gourge. I think he would like Coshocton County flint better than Flint Ridge. I had a red/orange piece of Flint Ridge Flint the size of my fist and couldn't break or chip it. I found some white Quartzy gravel a kept hitting it with a spark plug and it broke.

  • @LETME-kl9jg

    Ha,Ha, Ha, I have always wanted to Knapp flint I just lived 4 miles from Flint Ridge. I couldn't even chip it. To me it's shit. I have Never been to the Nethers Farm Place.? You should look up i believe he's called Comissioner Tom,.....out of Coshocton County,...He is on you tube,......I have found ancient flint artifacts made of that Blue Graey flint on a farm Near Black Hand Gourge,......a few miles North East of Flint Ridge. There's videos that shows someone knows where to find basket ball sized pieces of Coshocton County Flint. But any way I understand that Indian's built a fire on it then dumped water on it to cause it to break at Flint Ridge. I see Jay has the industrial strength solid copper bopper.

    Jay, I haven’t commented on your channel much or at all. But I wanted to ask, have you ever tried to knap Tallahatta quartz? You seem to really enjoy quartzites and it’s a pretty solid material.

    • @John-M.
      @John-M. 4 дні тому

      P.S if you want to start really putting some flutes in a Paleo piece than you need to focus on building convexity and a center ridge. It’s important to have proper thickness and for the platform to be only abraded on the nipple. Plus I like to anchor the tip of the preform into a stone covered with leather on my leg. Prevents as much end-shock. Hope that helps!

    • @Wildernessquestoutdoors
      @Wildernessquestoutdoors 4 дні тому

      My uncle gave me a chunk he collected about 10 years ago, I literally just knapped a little birdie from it. The talahatta is easier to flake than the far north stuff, talahatta holds together better too, the stuff up here is course grained and not well cemented like talahatta is. Would love to have more of it

    • @John-M.
      @John-M. 4 дні тому

      I will preface this by saying. I hate to sound to critical of your knapping but I truly mean to be helpful. When watching your pressure flaking you really tend to always scrunch down. Not down & in pushing the flake fully across the surface. Try getting a handful of flakes beveling them up on one side. Abrading it, flipping it over and running a set of flakes. But this time once you initiate the flake removal direct the energy across. Down and in not just down. Maybe that makes sense.

    • @Wildernessquestoutdoors
      @Wildernessquestoutdoors 2 дні тому

      yeah im lazy with pressure flaking now, severe shoulder injury limits what i can do, thats why I mostly use indirect.

    Absolutely Jay! Great work sir. To me I really haven't met to many easy rocks to work with. I've been working with mostly Ohio, and Texas Flint. However a few weekends ago, I came across a guy who had some Indiana chert Fer sale. Beautiful darker gray material. Knapped fairly well too. Wished he had more with him.
